In 1982 Hoboken, investigative reporter Delia Delgado begins connecting a series of devastating tenement fires targeting the city's Puerto Rican community, uncovering evidence that the destruction is anything but accidental. History remembers the Bronx burning, yet just across the Hudson River another city was consumed by flames. As Delia's reporting exposes "gentrification by fire," she is met with censorship, bribes, and intimidation meant to silence her. She refuses to back down, risking her career and her life to tell the truth.
A haunting and urgent drama, "BEFALLEN" is written by
Dr. Edwin Duroy and inspired by his book "Befallen: The Tragic Hoboken Fires 1973–1982". Dr. Duroy writes not only as a storyteller, but as a member of Hoboken's Puerto Rican community who lived through the dark chapter of history depicted in this story. Dr. Duroy and his wife, Santa Duroy, also serve as executive producers, bringing the story to the screen with the same urgency and personal stake that drove the book itself. The film explores moral courage, systemic failure, and the human cost of placing profit over people.

Directorial Debut - Milly-May McLaughlin
Milly-May is a writer, producer, and classically trained actor whose work is rooted in emotional truth and a commitment to telling stories that matter. Having produced and worked on several films, "BEFALLEN" marks the first time she steps into the director’s chair, bringing a theatrical sensibility and actor-driven approach to the screen. "BEFALLEN", grew out of discovering the largely erased history of “gentrification by fire” in Hoboken, New Jersey during the 1970s and 1980s, when the Puerto Rican community was deliberately displaced through arson and neglect. After moving to the Hoboken and reading the book, Milly-May felt a responsibility to help bring this underrepresented story to the screen.
